There are two types of people in this world. Those who let the who world know it’s their birthday and expect you actually to sing to them at dinner (gross), and those who hide their accomplishments. There’s nothing wrong with being either of those people, but feeling proud of yourself is okay.
Maybe you’ll be a shy person your whole life, or perhaps somewhere along the way, someone told you that you weren’t worthy of celebration. Either way, it’s not too late to take pride in yourself.
Reward Yourself
If you’re not the type to tell your coworkers what you were up to this weekend or brag on social media, that’s okay! But you still need to celebrate yourself. Say you hit a personal goal, whether that was running a 5K or putting a certain amount of dollars in your savings account. If you’re all business and no play, those goals will start to feel like punishment.
We’re not saying you need to go buck wild, but maybe buy yourself that fancy water bottle that will keep you hydrated on long runs. Set aside a little fun money to treat yourself on the weekend. It’s the little things that will help you keep motivating yourself.
Tell Your Friends
Sharing with your friends doesn’t mean you’re bragging about your achievements. These people are your friends for a reason and want to see you succeed. You never know who is looking to be inspired by someone else’s accomplishments.
Invite a friend to join you for a Saturday morning jog. Ask them if they want to join you for a weekend of estate sale hopping and help you look for a vintage couch. Maybe your friend is dying to find someone else who wants to get into the things you love doing but doesn’t quite know how to get started.
Remember, you never know who is looking for inspiration.
Document Your Moments
No worries if you shun social media. Take a picture for yourself. Buy the marathon photos. Snap a quick shot from the vacation that you saved up to go on. Send your mom a pic of your treasure-hunting finds. Print out a picture and put it on your fridge.
These are great for the days when you’re not quite feeling like a superhero. Take a peek at your fridge when grabbing more coffee and see that photo of one of your accomplishments. It’ll put a smile on your face immediately.
